Austin Fashion Awards

This past Saturday night was the Austin Fashion Awards, the finale of Austin Fashion Week. I competed in the Mash-Up competition. Our Mash-Up group Revival by Denim did not win the competition for best overal photo but the winner of the critics choice award was the team Eon and there photo blew me away! And the model was even more stunning in person! They did an incredible job!

Before the show began, my friend Kristi and I checked out the interactive clothing booth featuring designs by bridal designer Adrienne Yunger. You stand in front of the big screen TV and virtually try on her designs! You can check out her clothing at www.adrienneyungerapparel.com

During intermission our model Ashely Ford (who is the best!) introduced me to some great people. I met 14 year old Miranda Waldron Curry, style blogger. You can check out her style blog at http://atxfashioneur.com/ and http://thefashioneur.blogspot.com/. She is definitley someone to watch!

I also had the pleasure of meeting the jewelry designer behind Shalottlilly. Check out her jewelry at www.etsy.com/people/Shalottlilly5. Her jewelry has been featured at the Emmy's!

The second part of the show was amazing! Featured on the runway was Kendra Scott jewelry, Boudoir Queen and Stephen Moser. Words can not describe how amazing their shows were. It was an honor to be there and I can not wait to see what these amazing designers have in storee for us next year!

I've been out shopping and no dress so far but I snagged these fabulous shoes from JCPenny's. Originally $42 I used a coupon having total come out to $36 instead. Not bad for great shoes!

As I was out shopping for a dress, I entered Langford Market downtown on 2nd St. The place has some really cute outfits, shoes and jewelry and at great prices. I went in looking for a dress and came out with an offer for the store to host a Trunk Show in June for my new jewelry line! I'm super excited about this! They mentioned they've had a DJ and have had Tito's Vodka as a sponsor at past trunk shows. I'm really looking forward to this! As soon as we narrow down the date I will update you and hopefully if you are in the area, you can come out!

If you are in the mood for some great shoes, check out JCP.com and LangfordMarket.com for great clothes and accessories. Happy shopping my fashionistas ...and don't forget to vote!!! :)

Austin Fashion Week - Mashup Team

Last night I met my Mash up team for Austin's Fashion Week that will be in May of this year. I'm super excited to get started! A Mash up team is a team of a fashion designer, jewelry designer, model, photographer, hair dresser and makeup artist. We combine our powers to dress our model and take and enter one photo into a competition against other Mash-up teams. Voting will be open to the public begining April 19th to vote on the best photo (so of course vote for our photo!) The winner will be announced at the Austin Fashion Week awards ceremony in May...so I'll keep you posted as to who wins!

Our team name is The Revival of Denim. Our fashion designer is Haja Scott of Toombas Jeans and Denim Wear and I will be designing jewelry around her design that she will have for our model Ashley Ford. The rest of our awesome team is Ross Fox our photographer, Linda Johnson our makeup artist and Alley Richard our hair stylist.

This is my first time competing in Austin Fashion Week and I am so excited! Check out more details at the link below. Will update you on voting info as it gets closer.

Special Treatment

I have a reoccurring experience that I can no longer deny and want to see how often this happens to you fashionistas out there...

Anytime I wear a dress, people are so nice to me! Men open doors, women smile; people are just generally more friendly and all because I'm wearing a dress! I go to the grocery store in jeans and a nice top but no one ever gives me a second look. I put on a dress, and it's like I'm in a whole new world. I will admit that when we dress up, we tend to feel more confident and maybe that has something to do with people being more respectful and friendly. I hadn't worn a dress in about a month, and then put on a sundress on Sunday day to run an errand and was quickly reminded of the more welcoming treatment I get from the people around me.

I thought it was hilarious that the same day this happened to me, the new episode of Bob's Burgers aired that night and depicted Bob getting special treatment when he wore a suit. He was treated so well, he wore the suit the whole day. Thought this was just too funny of a coincidence I had to see if any others out there have noticed this and would like to hear your experience.

Sunday was also the day I decided to set up a booth at our local farmer's market to sell my latest jewelry collection. The big trend this spring is all about pastels. You will see lots of pale greens, blues, salmon and peach colors. I have incorporated that into my latest designs. Check them out and get inspired for spring or feel free to stop by my etsy shop and get some special treatment from me...type in coupon code BLOGFAN and get 25% off your purchase just for reading today's post!

Tassels and ACL

Last spring I designed a pair of earrings with a small bead on top and a colorful tassel dangling at the bottom. Little did I know, I was on to something. I started noticing a trend this fall with tassels as accessories. I've seen tassel earrings at Target and tassel designer necklaces in several fashion magazines. I really wanted to get back into this trend so I made a pair of antique looking earrings with a black tassel. Not to toot my own horn, but I'm in love with these! I'm planning on making a similar necklace. Keep your eyes peeled. I think you will be seeing a lot more of the tassel trend in the spring and next fall too!

I've been working on my jewelry business a lot lately (which explains where I've been instead of blogging, oops). I decided to create some jewelry to wear at ACL (Austin City Limits). I was at ACL last weekend and it was pretty awesome! I got to see Florence and the Machine, Weezer, The Black Keys...which is now one of my new favorite bands! and many more. I decided to go with a rocker look this year for ACL. I wore my burgundy shirt I bought at target (that's featured in my previous blog about Shades of Burgundy), jeans and black biker boots (biker/rain boots). To finish the look I made a black and gold spike chain necklace, which I ended up wearing as a bracelet since my blouse already had hardware on the front. It was fun getting dressed up for the concerts and had a hell of a time too!

Next time your getting dressed for an event, try adding some personal touches to it. If you don't make jewelry, maybe add a scarf your mom made you or a pendant your grandmother gave you. It will add more personality to your look and make it even more special! Rock on my fashionistas!

Snake Print!

I really love my new snake-print flats I just bought at JCPenny's for $30! They are super comfy and I love the multi-color metallic print they used. It makes it easy to wear with so many different outfits. These flats are part of the Cosmopolitan collection. This collection has many different shoes to pick from in different types of animal print and colors. Check out some of the shoes in the Cosmopolitan collection below...

This fall, animal print is big. Everything from leopard print skirts, crock skinned purses and snaked skinned jeans have graced the runways and flooded the department stores. If snaked skinned jeans sound a bit racy for you, try it on an accessory. A silver snake-printed purse gives a more edgy look, while a crock-printed shoe will give your outfit a sharp, chic look. Play with your wardrobe this fall and throw in some animal print into the mix. I guarantee you'll love it! Happy shopping my fashionistas!

Shades of Burgundy

Burgundy, Maroon and Raisin are the new "it" colors this season....and I love it! I love the vampy look it gives in the winter months. Pair a maroon lipstain with a blunt bang, or sleek ponytail for a super edgy look. Or switch out your black heels for blood red pumps to add some life to your outfit.

I bought a dark burgundy top this weekend from Target for only $23. It's a sleevless top with metal connectors down the bust that gives it a warrior vibe. I'm thinking of paring it with a color-blocked black and snake print skirt (I also saw at Target) and a black fitted blazer I already own to complete a rocker/chic look that is still work appropiate for the office. Check out these shades of burgundy items below and have fun mixing it into your fall wardrobe. Happy shopping my fashionistas!
